Every home study student is encouraged to become a member of NCRA and to subscribe to the “Journal for the Reporting and Captioning Professions,” formerly the “Journal of Court Reporting.” In addition to news and general information about the profession, their Web site (www.ncraonline.org) has special features for students, including a virtual mentoring program. The November/December 2002 and the November/December 2004 issues of the “Journal” have articles by graduates Christine Griffin and Carolyn White, respectively (see Testimonials). (We feel honored that the StenoMax Institute is the only home study school that has had students/graduates selected by the editors for publication of articles in the “Journal.”)

To get the lower student subscription rate, Dr. Milton Archer, executive director of StenoMax, will be happy to serve as your sponsor. The signed application form is included among the materials sent to each new and transfer student.

NCRA membership and your subscription to the “Journal” is just one more way to feel that you are part of a community dedicated to excellence in training for your profession. This membership is also a requirement to sit for the national certification RPR (Registered Professional Reporter) exam, which is offered in all major U.S. cities each May and November.
